Generally not necessary on modern vehicles that use multi weight oil.
Yes this is the standard answer with fuel injected vehicles. Start it, wait 15 seconds or so, drive off. Be gentle until warmed up, which happens faster driving than idling.
Of further concern for me however is my commute is only 10 to 15 minutes long on city streets. I am very much looking forward to the remote start this winter BUT am concerned over possibly exacerbating conditions for carbon deposits on the intake valves without more spirited driving or longer distances.
I was hoping allowing the GDI engine to run that much longer might help with that. Particularly with the Atkinson Cycle allowing more fuel vapors around the intake valve and thus the detergents to get at such deposits.
Thoughts?
